Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange to see a doctor at Urologic Specialists of New England?
Our doctors see patients by appointment. To make an appointment, call 401-275-8110. Your health plan may require a referral from your primary care physician to assure coverage of your care by one of our urologists.

What if I have an urgent problem and need to see a doctor right away?
If you believe your problem is life-threatening, call 9-1-1 or go to a hospital Emergency Room. If it is not an emergency, you can call USNE and if one of our doctors is available, we will try to fit you in. If that is not possible, you can go to an Urgent Care office.

What are your office hours?
Office hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

How can I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please call to let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot keep a scheduled appointment so we can offer the time that has been reserved for you to another patient. If you are running late on the day of your appointment, please call to let us know when you expect to arrive.

Do I need a referral to see a USNE urologist?
We do not require referrals, however some insurance plans will not cover the costs of urology care unless the member has been referred by a primary care physician. There may also be insurance requirements for pre-authorization of surgical procedures. Our office staff can advise you of the requirements of most insurance plans.

What insurance plans do you accept?
USNE participates in most major health plans serving the Rhode Island area including Blue Cross, Medicare, United, Neighborhood and many commercial plans. If we do not participate with your health plan, we will require payment of our customary fees and provide you with a detailed receipt that you can use in filing a claim. If your insurance plan requires payment of deductibles, coinsurance or copayments, you will be responsible for those payments.

What should I bring to my appointment?
- Referral form (if your health plan requires it)
- Your insurance card(s) and a photo ID
- A list of all medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter and herbal supplements
- Relevant information about your medical and surgical history
- Any relevant X-ray films or other records you may have
- A written list of questions you want to ask the doctor, so you won’t forget any
- Check or credit card for co-payment or deductible
